Keeping Up with the Joneses

Feeling pressured to keep up with the Joneses? As a freelance writer, I've never been one to keep up with the Joneses. They all bypass me when it comes to salary, home, clothes, vacations, etc. But now that I have a son, I sometimes feel pressure to do things for him or give him things that others around me are doing for their kids. I try not to give into the pressure. But I don't want him to be wanting for anything. It also depends on what it is. For instance, he has no need for designer clothes at 15 months old, so it's easy to ignore the Joneses when their babies are sporting Ralph Lauren. If someone gives it to me as a gift (which friends and family have), I say thank you. But I don't buy it myself. On the other hand, I might feel more pressure - and I could even be convinced - to enroll baby boy in a class designed to jump start his education or teach him music or something akin to that. After all, I want to nurture his mind and personal growth. So, what about you? Do you feel pressure to keep up with the Joneses? How so?
