Sex in Public Places: Yeah or Nay?

By , About.com Guide   May 1, 2009

Follow me on:

Many couples, even married ones, look for interesting places to have sex to spruce up their romantic life. Recently, a drunk couple started having sex on the lawn at Windsor Castle in England. That's right, Britain's royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II who was home at the time, could have had a bird's eye view of what is supposed to be a very private act. They were arrested and written up for doing the deed in public. Truly, they should be ashamed of themselves. Tourists were taping them, according to The Associated Press.

Still, some couples have sex in places, such as the beach, public restrooms, and dressing rooms. Some consider this kind of behavior a great way to keep passion alive and improve sex in their marriage. Others think it's just plain wrong -- not to mention gross and illegal. What do you think?

I like it a lot. My wife does it for me but worries mostly. She did (really)enjoy it one time in a very quiet place. I would never do it openly in plain view. I respect other people(esp. kids) and also really don’t want any legal trouble. The thrill for me is seeing my wife naked in unusual places and IMAGINING others watching, while being as careful as possible of not getting caught.

While I’m always glad to see positive opinions being expressed about so-called public sex, please be aware there is a serious double standard in the USA for this behavior. Men seeking sex in a park with other men get arrested everyday in this country. They face jail, fines, and joining a sex offender list. This happens everyday and while some straight couples may get in trouble if caught, this is a classic example of unequally applied laws. Ask yourself when was the last time you heard about the cops busting straight people having sex in their cars on “Lovers Lane”? Put all men in those cars and you’d see something different.

I agree with Keith regarding the double standards. I think it has to stop. Gay people seeking sex in public places get jail time while straight getting caught does not and sometimes, they don’t even have to pay for a fine. Most of the police officers even attempt to lure the gay men into having sex with them then arrest them. I think there should be more attention paid towards this kind of homophobic discrimination in this part of the area that is hardly heard of in the media.

Keith & Shirley, I’d LOVE to live in either of your cities where straight people don’t get busted for public sex! I’ve lived all over the US and never once has any straight couple I’ve known NOT been busted and fined when caught in public.

We have been happily married for 34 years. Changing things up is part of what keeps sex growing. public and semi-public sex is one fun part of it that we enjoy whenever we can.
