An Inspirational Christmas Love Story
I've been serving as New York City tour guide to my relatives who are visiting from Italy. They have many questions about how New York has changed in the years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. There's an emptiness, a hole in the skyline and in our hearts. But people who live and work in this area have a fierce determination to overcome challenges such as this. Still, even though the terrorist attacks on New York were more than seven years ago now, we must not forget what happened and we must maintain our solidarity because terrorism continues to happen.
That is what struck me about this photo. On Christmas Day 2001, this couple met one another and began their journey toward marriage despite the hardships they themselves -- not to mention the rest of the world -- was facing at the time. As we approach the holidays and I show my Italian family my New York, I thought this photo was a great one to share. It's inspirational and what a great Christmas memory! Although I don't know what has happened to this couple in the years since they wed, I would like to think they are as united as New York in the days just after the 9/11 attacks. Consider this your holiday card from me. Let there be peace on Earth and in our marriages. Happy Holidays!

It looks like the Statue of Liberty is raising her hand to a toast as well!!
Happy Holidays to you, Francesca!
What a great story. Thanks for the inspiring words!
“Let there be peace on Earth… and let it begin with me.”
Or as another singer put it,
“I’m starting with the man in the mirror…”
Birge is right – it does look like the Statue of Liberty is toasting with them! Great photo and great message. Thanks, Francesca, and happy holidays to you too!
