Going to the Chapel: It's Time to Wed
Wednesday October 1, 2008
I know many of you came here looking for a Wordless Wednesday entry. But tomorrow I'm going to get married, and there was just no time to participate this week. Next week, I'll be back on schedule with Wordless Wednesday. In the meantime, I just returned from confession. The priest who will marry us tomorrow asked me if I was worrying about getting married, I told him that the only thing that scares me a bit is the fact that both of us have strong ties to our families and they came from far away. Really, they both come from Ischia, an island off the coast of Naples in Italy. But my family moved from Ischia to the United States and his family stayed put. We've been going back and forth between the two countries for all four years that we've been together.
Loving long distance is tough. We've used the webcam and telephones. We had a date via computer every day. We talked and talked and talked for hours. It kind of helped us get to the important stuff fast. I hear that more and more people are having long distance marriages -- where one spouse lives in one country and the other in another and they meet in the middle whenever they can. If you have any tips for these couples, please leave them in the comments below. It would be a great wedding gift for me and other newlyweds in similar situations.

Francesca, I’ll be thinking of you (and sending up prayers) on your special day! Tante auguri!
Congrats! Put your pictures on the blog!!! Good luck Birde to Be!!!!
Hi, Thanks to all for the well wishes. It was certainly a whirlwind, and we still have to complete the vow renewal in the States for relatives who could not make it to Italy. In the meantime, you can see at least one of our photos in the Newlyweds Forum in the discussion about sharing wedding photos. Enjoy! Thanks again!
