Newlywed Shot Dead on Honeymoon: Tragedy Teaches a Lesson
Thursday July 31, 2008
Hug your spouse just a little bit tighter tonight. Keep him or her closer to you. Be grateful to have one another. Be grateful for your life even if money's tight, you have to do the laundry, and there's nothing good to eat in the fridge. You have love and that's all that really matters.
Last weekend British newlyweds Catherine and Benjamin Mullany, both age 31, were wrapping up their two-week honeymoon on the island of Antigua when someone allegedly broke into their Cocos Hotel room and shot them both. Catherine was killed, and Benjamin is brain dead. Their life together had only just begun. To have it cut short on their honeymoon just after they wed makes the story all the more tragic.
Sad stories like this seem hopeless. If anything positive can come out of this tragedy it is that we should all keep life in perspective. We should all treasure every moment of our newlywed life and beyond. Instead of losing sleep over the bills that have to be paid, we should lose sleep to make love to our spouse. Instead of whining about troubles at work, we should listen to what our husband or wife has to say about his or her day. Instead of worrying about keeping up with the Joneses, we should worry about staying in love. In honor of Catherine and Benjamin, who never got the chance to realize the full potential of their marriage, we must make the most of ours.

Francesca, Thank You for that. It’s easy to get disillusioned from news like this. The reality is nothing is promised so live for the day.
Thank you for leaving a comment. I think you’re absolutely correct. What do you do in your relationships to make the most of every day?
