Your Favorite Wedding Moment and Why
Was August lobster family gathering - all of a sudden we made an announcement of the date we were finally going to get married (took people a while to realize the date was that day!).
Only one other person knew what we were going to do it, and she took pics of crowds reaction. Priceless!
What You'd Change and Why
Not a darn thing
Your Wedding Song
None muscical - just the sound of family all gathered together and having a very good time and then popping the wedding on them.
My Wedding Story
My soul mate and I met via the Internet.
Engagement: my b-day and unexpectedly a limo shows up (my 1st ride in one). We pick up family to go to a nice dinner.
Drop them off on way home and George presents me with a box which I thought would be earrings or a necklace. Inside were two engagement rings, Claddas - one in silver and one in gold, so all my jewelry would always match and he proposed. I said 'yes'.
By the way, George had previously asked my daughter if it would be OK for him to marry me and she had said 'yes'.
Our Wedding
Our elderly parents had said eloping. Neither of us wanted a big expensive, formal wedding.....so.....
Unknowingly to everyone but my daughter, we decided to get married when all the family was together anyways for the annual August Lobster Family Gathering, at our house.
I had a friend whose husband was a JP. They 'just happened' to stop by to get a mysterious paper from me during the gathering. He wore a cap with fake long hair, came on a motor cycle and a tee shirt with saying. She came as a hippi. Family kinda kept their distance.
We made announcement of wedding date and it took a while for people to realize we meant that day. The pics are priceless. George and I changed into a little less casual clothing, the JP's hair came off into a short professional haircut. I aksed my 75 yr old father if he would give me away and George asked his 78 yr old mother to give him away. Both parents were proud, in tears and it was perfect. They both died a few years later.
The wedding party moved to the lawn and family were all over the garage and driveway and we got married. The party that had been occurring before our marriage, ramped up for afterward to celebrate with lots of very happy family.
George gifted me with two wedding rings - one in white gold and one in yellow gold, to go with my engagement bands. I'm always coordinated now.
It was the perfect wedding.
Advice
- Think outside the box for how you propose and the type of wedding you have. Getting married is all about you and your other, so do things the way you want and even if others may not approve.
- When you do things your way, the moment becomes even more special and memorable. You are also happier. The result too, is that people who didn't approve end up being OK with things because when you're so happy, the entire occasion takes on that happiness and effects everyone around you. Having the people you love and who love you always results in a happy occasion.
