Wedding Date:
March 19, 2009
Relationship Profile:
Funny man David Letterman, 61, and Regina Lasko, 48, met in 1986 when she was working for him. For 23 years, they were together without marrying. Letterman, according to NBC, was reluctant to marry again after he married and divorced his college sweetheart in 1977. In 2003, Harry, Letterman and Lasko's son, was born. And Letterman recently gave in and wed Lasko, much to everyone's surprise, including his own. Word that Letterman has had sexual relations with others who worked for him, including an intern whose boyfriend tried to extort money from the star, has caused some to wonder whether the marriage will last.
The Wedding:
The couple live in a ranch in Montana and wed at the Teton County Courthouse. It was a simple civil ceremony, according to People. The bride wore a navy blue suit, and the couple was joined by five-year-old Harry and friends Genevieve and Lee Barhaugh. On his show, Letterman reported that the family went into town after the ceremony.
The Honeymoon:
A late-night host, Letterman was back at work on the Monday night after the wedding. There was no immediate honeymoon for the pair.
What the Press Says about Them:
The press said little of the private couple before the sex scandal broke in October 2009, and photos of the couple together are difficult to come by. But Letterman and Lasko, at least for now, have staying power. They've been together more than 20 years, after all. Even in the middle of the scandal, more questions have arisen about whether Letterman's career, as opposed to his marriage, will suffer.
What We Learn from Them:
Letterman and Lasko proved for a very long time that you don't need a piece of paper to be committed to one another or create a family. Marriage is more a state of mind than an institution. Still, now that the Letterman sex scandal has surfaced, we can only imagine what other lessons we will gain from this marriage.
