Newlyweds might not have the time or money for a lengthy, pricey honeymoon. But that doesn’t mean you should give up on having
special alone time in the days following your wedding. Here are affordable suggestions for honeymoon alternatives:
1. Go to the beach.
Lots of newlyweds go to a tropical island for their honeymoon. You don’t have to give up on taking in some sun just because you’re not heading to Hawaii. If you are in a warm climate and the beach is relatively close by, you can head to the beach for a day. You’ll feel as though you’re in paradise as you sip drinks and splash around with one another. Stroll down the sand, hand in hand, and contemplate your future happiness.2. Spend a day in bed together.
Prepare your bedroom for romance. Put your best linens on the bed, scatter rose petals, dim the lights, have food and drink (think strawberries, chocolate, and champagne) on hand, wear your sexiest lingerie, and make love, sleep, talk, and lounge. You can feed each other and make love again. But you should probably also have a few romantic DVDs ready to play when you tire out and want to vegetate in each others' arms.
3. Throw a cocktail party for two.
If your idea of a vacation includes bar hopping and tasting the local specialty drinks, you can go from pub to pub in your neighborhood and toast your marriage – of you can create your favorite cocktails for each other at home. Have some finger food, too, so that you don't get drunk or ill (a real romance killer). And then let the celebration continue in the bedroom.4. Be tourists in your hometown.
Some couples enjoy sightseeing during their honeymoon. If checking out an exotic locale’s culture is what you’re missing, then discover your own hometown. Many neighborhoods have their own museums, sports teams and events, entertainment, and sites. Spend the day exploring your neighborhood together. You’ll probably be surprised at what you find. After all, there is no place like home.5. Camp out in your backyard.
Pass a cozy night under the stars in your own backyard. Pitch a tent, make a campfire to cook hot dogs and s’mores, and snuggle in your sleeping bag. You can make love in the tent and feel one with each other and nature by morning.6. Splurge on one fancy dinner.
Money might be tight for an entire vacation. But you could probably afford to go to an expensive restaurant for one elegant meal (especially if you reserve some of the
wedding cash gifts you received). Pick a place that you would never go to under normal circumstances but that you’ve always wanted to try. Make sure the menu includes dishes that you’d both like to sample. Get dolled up for the occasion and gaze at your beloved over the candlelight. It might not be a week in Paris, but one delicious night is better than none!
