Where Should You Honeymoon?

By Francesca Di Meglio, About.com

When the wedding is over, you and your spouse should go on a honeymoon that you’ll both enjoy and will allow you to start your marriage in a positive way. The vacation does not have to be long or expensive, but it should offer an opportunity for you and your new spouse to unwind, romance each other, and get intimate.

Here are some ideas – broken down by couple type – on where to honeymoon:

The Funky Bunch

Who you are: A couple that thrives on the creative and seeks culture and inspiration

Where to honeymoon: A major city with art museums and open arms for alternative groups. Think San Francisco or Seattle!

Party Animals

Who you are: You guys like to boogie and bar hop in your spare time. You prefer sleeping during the day and stepping out when the sun goes down.

Where to honeymoon: A city with a great nightlife such as New York, Los Angeles, or Amsterdam would be a dream.

The Jocks

Who you are: You two probably met on the company softball team and enjoy physical activities – all sorts of them.

Where to honeymoon: Rock climbing or white water rafting could be fun. Or you could honor your love of sports by visiting landmarks such as Cooperstown, N.Y., where you'll find the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.

Nature Lovers

Who you are: You were green before it was trendy. You enjoy spending time outdoors, maybe eating granola, and taking a hike.

Where you should go: Camping somewhere such as Yellowstone National Park might be right.

Film Buffs

Who you are: Your favorite pastime is watching movies, and you probably recite quotes to one another from classic films in the same way other couples recite poetry.

Where to honeymoon: Hollywood, of course.

Beach Bumbs

Who you are: You two want to do nothing but take in the sun and take a swim. Your vacation happens on the sand and on the sand alone.

Where to honeymoon: South Florida, Mexico, or the Caribbean are among the hot destinations that will satisfy your sun craving.

Shopaholics

Who you are: You two like to shop until you drop, and you can’t walk away from a bargain.

Where to honeymoon: If you can take the smell of nearby Elizabeth, Seacaucus, N.J. is the hub of designer outlets – and the home of Giants Stadium. If you are big spenders, you could head to Paris or Milan for some serious shopping for fine clothes, leather goods, perfumes, fancy jewelry, and outrageous accessories.

The Power Couple

Who you are: You and your spouse probably found love over Finance 101 while snagging your MBAs.

Where to honeymoon: Emerging economies offer interesting sites – like a Nike factory – and an opportunity to see the world’s economic future maturing right before your eyes. Eastern Europe, China, and India come to mind as possibilities.

Foodies

Who you are: Friends and family will either find the two of you slaving in the kitchen perfecting your latest dish or parked in front of the Food Network.

Where to honeymoon: Anywhere you can indulge your appetite. Italy, with its famous cooking lessons and wine tours, would be perfetto!
