Guide Review - Kodak Photo Calendars: Pros and Cons

When my husband and I first started dating, I made a photo calendar for him. I printed out the photo and calendar pages using Print Shop and then bound them together with a plastic spiral. After our wedding, vow renewal, honeymoon and family reunion, he decided that I should make a calendar for this year using photos from all these glorious celebrations. Five years later, I know of more options when it comes to photo calendars. Since I had a great experience creating holiday/thank you cards with photos from our wedding for everyone who celebrated our marriage on Kodak.com, I decided to turn to the site for the photo calendar, too.

From the start, I was impressed with the options I had. There were a variety of backgrounds for the photo calendar -- from the colorful and the cheery to the subtle and sophisticated. Uploading your pictures is not difficult, but it does require patience because it takes time. I used a mix of photos from my digital camera and those taken by photographers at our wedding and vow renewal celebrations, but they were all good quality photos, which is why it might have taken some time to upload.

One of the best things about the Kodak calendars is that you can choose the months for your calendar. In other words, you don't have to start with January and end with December. My husband's name day is coming up in June, so I made his photo calendar as his gift, and I chose to have the calendar cover June 2009 to May 2010. One could do the same for an anniversary, so the calendar literally covers from the month you were married to the month before your anniversary.

Choosing where to put each picture is up to you, or you can have the site place the images automatically. It takes just minutes. You also get to choose an image and some text for the cover. You can keep it humorous or make it a serious statement of love.

2012 Calendar. We have been making family photo calendars for about 10 years with a local printer, and the calendar is the only gift my parents, who are nearly 80, ask for, and look forward to at Christmas. They are 1,500 miles away and want to see pictures of our family. My parents had two of us kids who submit family calendars to them each Christmas and they do compare and over the years preferred the quality of ours that came from the mom & pop printer in our town of 5,000, over the other one they received from my brother that came from dslr photography and a printer in the town of 1,000,000. Last year, however, was a bit more competitive, and so . . . After a sale was advertised in December 2011 at Kodak Gallery, I decided to take a chance. It was time consuming to browse for my pictures on my computer and put them into the calendar myself. You can include a tiny picture on a special occasion date such as a birthday, which we did, and which was not available from the local printer. I used the oversized calendar option, not available from the local printer. On sale it was, with shipping, the same cost as the smaller calendar at the local printer. When we received the calendar I could see that the Kodak Gallery Calendar was in an entirely different league than the local printer could offer. The backgrounds are neat. The paper is the quality of a good cardstock. The prints are amazing quality -- way better than the local printer's laser printer could produce. The available layouts are superior, and in an oversized calendar you can put more than one photo on the page and it will still look good to both my aging eye as well as my parents' even older eyes. The reviews from family members when the calendar came out were, ""I like that, how did you do that?"" Where did you get this? The quality of the printed images was better than I envisioned from the digital images seen on my computer. The calendar greatly exceeded expectations. I liked it so much I decided to try another Kodak Gallery product for my wife's b-day gift, to wit: photo playing cards. They will be here in a few days. I am crossing my fingers, but confident now because of the quality of the calendar. Kodak Gallery Calendars: Highly recommended.
