Jaclyn Douma has wrapped up her love of being a domestic goddess in her cookbook, Our First Year - Cost Effective Recipes from the Home of Newlyweds (Golden West Publishers, 2009), which is available at the Sugar N Spice Web site. In the cookbook, Douma shares basic cooking tips and a variety of recipes. She thanks her mom and aunt for "knowing the meaning of homemade." And she talks about the joy and challenge of cooking for her husband, who has different tastes when it comes to food. The book works for couples at any stage in their life because it's focused on cooking for two. To boot, the Douma's graciously shared photos from their wedding album with the Newlyweds site. If nothing else, the photos and book will make you hungry.

I wonder how many couples go into marriage realizing that their whole outlook and food preferences may differ greatly from their spouse. We had that great nursery rhyme when I was growing up to prepare us for differences,”Jack Sprat could eat no fat his wife could eat no lean so betwixt them both they licked the platter clean”. But wonder if the younger generation has ever even heard of it, although now that I think of it I know a couple of young sister-in-laws who do actually like to lick their platters both of whom were read nursery rhymes by their my generation moms so maybe LOL
