Looking for advice on how to boost your new marriage? The team for the National Institutes of Health's Early Years of Marriage (EYM) project recently shared four tips on how to build a strong foundation for your marriage. Most of what you'll read is obvious advice that you might have even heard before. But what makes this story worth visiting is that the team interviewed 373 couples over the course of 24 years. There's more heft behind this advice than when your mom -- or even I -- tell you the same thing.
One thing I found interesting was their tip about "sweating the small stuff." I always thought that was a mistake. But this article suggests you let your spouse know that he drives you nuts when he leaves the seat up on the toilet. I guess when my husband drapes his clothes on the couch or bed and lets them pile up, I should start telling him what I really think of that habit. Then again, we might just end up arguing everyday, and that sounds tiring. What do you think?
