Airing Our Dirty Laundry
Monday July 13, 2009
Today, the birds are chirping, the sun is shining and I'm singing Allelujah. Our new washing machine for our apartment in Italy, where I've been staying for the past six weeks, finally arrived. Until now, I have been washing my clothes by hand -- all my clothes by hand.
It takes all day to wash a load of laundry by hand -- and it kills your back. Plus, I ruined some of my clothes. When I hung my Polo pajamas outside to dry, the top fell in the dirt and got destroyed. Sometimes, my underwear and socks were stiff as a board because I didn't get the detergent out. I argued with my husband because he was not taking the initiative to get the machine -- and it's his country and responsibility because we're here with his whole family. But today, there was no bickering, just lovely kisses of gratitude.
The only day that will be more glorious than this one will be the day that the washing machine gets hooked up and actually works. All hail machines and modern conveniences!

are no power outages or it’s back to washing by hand! Ha Ha
