In-Laws Driving You Crazy?

We've all been there. We're trying to meet a deadline, sneezing and wondering if we have swine flu, and the house is a mess when we get word that the in-laws are going to drop by and they'll be arriving in two minutes or so. Or maybe your mother-in-law just happened to suggest cooking lessons after eating your pot roast. Or your in-laws monopolize your wife's time with all sorts of chores and get togethers that she simply can't miss. But now you have a solution.

Over the weekend, I discovered Outlaw In-Laws, a show on the Style Network that has advice columnist Ellie Tisher observing families and helping them resolve issues between in-laws. In one of the episodes, a husband who avoided confrontation and rarely spoke up learned how to be more assertive with his parents, who accused him of being whipped and criticized his wife's way of living. In another episode, a wife learned to tell her husband what she really wanted instead of leaving her mom to do her dirty work. I found the advice to be helpful and relevant to my own relationship with in-laws.
