Same-Sex Couples Get Married before Election Day

Same-sex marriage has become a hot topic on the campaign trail as we inch ever closer to Nov. 4. In California, couples like Lyons and Franklin (in the photo above) are rushing to wed for fear that Proposition 8, which would again make gay marriage illegal in California, will pass. Frankly, no matter what happens, the government can't stop love. If two people -- whatever their sex -- want to care for one another and live together for all eternity, no one can really prevent them from doing that. That's the cornerstone of marriage -- whether you have a piece of paper saying you are married or not. What do you think? Leave your comments below.

You go girls (and boys)! Don’t let them get you down, no matter what.
great picture! Congrats to all the newlyweds - getting married is a wonderful right that everybody should have!
I agree that the important thing is the relationship and not the marriage certificate, but homosexuals should have the right to get married if they wish.
Thanks, Suzanne. I think you make an excellent point because the certificate and the legality of marriage does afford certain financial and legal benefits that would be compromised if gay marriage becomes illegal again in California.
What happens if Prop 8 passes? Will other states that allow gay marriage still recognize these marriages?
What a great and timely photo! I personally think all couples should have the right to marry. I hope Proposition 8 doesn’t pass.
I have always worried about what it says about our society when *government* wants to dictate such personal choices. Freedom includes (and should be recognized to include) the freedom to be who you are and to make your choices unfettered, as long as they do not impinge on the rights of others.
Thank you for having this photo this week, Francesca!
