David Heilman and Charlene Jimenez took the plunge and married in a 117,000-gallon salt-water aquarium at the Silverton Casino Lodge on July 7, 2007 in Las Vegas. © Photographer Ethan Miller/Getty Images for Silverton Casino Lodge
This couple, David Heilman and Charlene Jimenez of Nevada, won a contest to be able to have their wedding under water with a mermaid by their side. In the image, it's almost as if they are in Halloween costumes. What I love about this couple and this photo is that they clearly balked at tradition and expressed their love in their own way. Weddings that reflect the couple, their lives, and their love story set a gold standard for the marriage. They say to guests that this couple knows itself, is proud of itself, and can probably stand the test of time -- or at least the criticism and judgment of others. Every marriage, after all, needs a tough skin to survive.See and Share More Beautiful Wedding Photos in the Newlyweds Forum

Now there is a couple who understand how to put the spark of adventure into romance!!
This is definitely a creative approach to getting married!
That is really cool!
This is the best pic ever!!!!!!!!!! What a great idea. I want to get remarried to do this!!! (to my hubby:)
Wordless Wednesday
So I’m guessing they didn’t also take “I don’t” signs in case they changed their minds at the last minute… LOL!
Now that is unique.
that so cool!!!!
I don’t know about that. Having a weird wedding ceremony does not mean the couple will last. I also think that traditional wedding ceremonies are beautiful and not to be snubbed. It’s just a matter of doing what is right for each couple. No one way is better or worse.
Very interesting picture. Also, why in a tank, if they’re going to do it, do it in the Ocean with real wildlife and real beauty… Okay, sorry, just more opinions from me.
Happy Friday!! :0
I don’t think a marriage is guaranteed to survive just because they do something weird for their wedding celebration. But I do believe that people who create weddings that reflect them and their love story are starting their lives together with the right idea. They are expressing their love in a way that suits them — and they are putting their own needs above those of others, who might have wanted them to have a more traditional affair.
What a unique wedding!!
