Can't Afford a Honeymoon?

Monday October 13, 2008
My new husband, Antonio, and I could not fathom taking a honeymoon right now because I traveled for our wedding in Italy, and he will be traveling for our vow renewal in the United States. But we did manage to spend a special day together right after the wedding. Our friends, who own a hotel, put us up for the night -- and we spent the morning after the wedding lounging in our room, having breakfast by the pool, and hanging out on the beach, which was right outside our door. We felt revived -- and closer to one another -- by the time we returned home later that afternoon.

Even if you can't afford the time or money required for a lengthy honeymoon, you can still steal some precious alone time from your schedule to do something fun together. It's a way to get your marriage started on the right foot and to unwind after stressful wedding planning. With a little creativity, you can romance one another without even leaving the house!
