Love Amid Georgia-Russia Conflict

A wedding announcement clipped from a newspaper remains intact for the most part despite being found on the ground near a burned block of apartment buildings on Aug. 14 in Gori, Georgia, where tensions have been high since early August. © Photo by Chris Hondros/Getty Images

Conflict broke out between Russia and Georgia in August after Russia recognized the rebel Georgia regions South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states. What is striking about this photo is that the image of the bride and groom -- their smiling faces -- remains in one piece even though the edges are burned. In that way, it is symbolic of how love can endure amid challenges and even tragedy. Like strong people, strong marriages persevere even when someone tries to burn them down. You must always fight to keep the image of yourselves as husband and wife in one piece. When you lose your will to keep up this fight, your marriage is in trouble. If you keep up the battle, nothing -- not even war -- will ever come between you.

What a photo. Talk about important symbolism! My heart goes out to the people of Georgia and to everyone living in conflict zones…it must be so hard to hang on to what’s really important in life amidst chaos.

Thanks, Beth. And, Nancy, I couldn’t agree more. My thoughts are with those who are suffering amid such political conflicts right now. There are many of them at the moment.
