Get Married, Have Fun

Wordless Wednesday Wedding
My brother John married Jaci last October in the bride's hometown, Johnsonburg, Penn. The small, all-American town was quite an experience for an Italian family from northern New Jersey -- and there was no shortage of laughs. The affair was filled with fun moments -- from the gang of us standing out on the corner in our suits and leather jackets unintentionally scaring the natives and trying to wave down my cousins who were lost to our cousin, the ring bearer, who vomited before the ceremony, reluctantly walked down the aisle, and then raised his arms in the air and shouted, "I did it, I won!" when he arrived at the groom's feet. In the photo above, John was teasing Jaci after removing her garter to prove that the entertainment never stops.
Marriages, much like weddings, must be tempered with humor. The minute you and your spouse start taking each other too seriously is the minute that your relationship becomes too much work for you to handle. Yes, you have to put in effort to have a good relationship. I have told you that in these pages a million times before. But you also have to laugh with one another and enjoy each other's company or the work you do on your relationship won't matter. That means going on dates, romancing one another -- and joking around. You have to keep having fun, even after the wedding is over.

I think a sense of humor is an essential element in any marriage. You’re right, though, not everything goes perfectly well on your wedding day, and it’s a good idea to bring your smile along for those less-than-perfect moments. (Like when our best man got a ticket on the way to the ceremony and was late…)
They look like they’re having a great time. Must have been a fun wedding!
That sounds like a hilarious and wonderful wedding! Makes me wish I had been there!
My friends and relatives always have such sedate ceremonies… If I ever get married, I hope it’s truly memorable, like your brother’s so evidently was.
Great shot! Sounded like a crazy and fun wedding!
It looks like someone has wound up under the table amid the hilarity (shoes on chair).
An elderly woman I knew always said she had a successful marriage for many years because her husband made her laugh.
I’m proud to say that our weddings are anything but sedate — always! I believe you might be right that someone was under the table. Crazy night!
Makes me sorry we eloped!
You can always have a vow renewal or reception on one of your anniversaries. They can be as much fun as the wedding. In fact, my groom and I will be getting married for real in Italy and then having a vow renewal in the States for family that can’t make it to Europe. We’re basically acting as though the wedding in Italy didn’t happen and doing the whole thing again!
Hmmm. Exactly what is he holding that she is so interested in?
Hi Francesca, yes, what in the world is she staring at? For sure something she generally doesn’t see!
I eloped once, it was fun (I may tell about it someday), had a big church wedding which didn’t go real smoothly, and fantasized about a lot more weddings inbetween.
Happy WW, thanks for peeking in on my ’sleeping dog.’
..
Scaring the native with your leather jackets! rofl. Thank goodness for humor, in all our relationships, especially the most intimate one of marriage.
I couldn’t agree more
Keeping a sense of humor is incredibly important.
That is such a fun pic!
How lovely! They really do look like they are having a ball. I just love the happiness that happens during weddings.
Happy WW
Laughter is always key in a marriage, you want to try to keep things light.
Ah.. the garter time is the best time.. She looks like she enjoyed it alot more than he did!! Maybe a special “someone” will catch the garter at my next years (hoping) nuptials..
A sense of humor is the key to a happy marriage – especially when you are married to an Italian!
