Newlywed Challenge: Dealing with an Unemployed Spouse
Thursday August 14, 2008
The world's economy is so depressing that I've found myself avoiding the news lately. You have to be a millionaire to afford a gallon of milk, and lots of people are unemployed. As a soon-to-be newlywed, I'm scared for the financial future of my husband and me -- and everyone else we know for that matter.
Today, I read the blog of a recent MBA graduate whose wife had just had a baby. The couple moved to Arizona from Utah, bought a home, and set roots there because the blogger got a job there. Two months into the new job, he was laid off -- and now he can't find a job, is stuck with a mortgage, and has a family to support.
Unemployment has to be hard on a marriage. It's definitely one of those times where you have to stick with your vows and support your spouse through his or her unemployment -- in the good times and the bad, baby!
