Jenna Bush Becomes a Newlywed
Monday May 12, 2008
President George W. Bush gave away his daughter Jenna in a wedding ceremony at the president's Texas ranch on May 10. The 26-year-old first daughter married Henry Hager, 30, in an intimate ceremony, according to various press reports. Pictures of the wedding are now available online, including a slide show from ABC News. What has captivated me is the simplicity of the wedding. From the photos, the bride seems to be fairly casual with no veil and some pretty flowers in her hair. She carried an understated bouquet of white flowers. Low centerpieces sat on the tables, and the guests seemed to be the V.I.P.s in the couple's lives as opposed to V.I.P.s in the media.
I take these photos as a sign that Jenna and Henry are off to a good start because they seemed to make their wedding be more about marriage -- making a lifetime commitment to one another in front of family and friends -- instead of making a spectacle for the media. They took many of the same photos all couples take -- Jenna with her dad, the first family pose, and a shot of the couple. I tend to think they will be facing the same dilemmas all newlyweds face. Where should we go for the holidays? How will we handle our finances? Who will take out the garbage? All right, maybe that last one won't be an issue for them.
Still, like most newlyweds, I am sure Jenna and Henry will delight in looking at the photos of their day, especially since their wedding album is online and in international newspapers. Yours can be too. If you're waxing nostalgic for your wedding, pull out the photos and share them with the world. Here's how:
